Information about Tin: from Barb C.
Under WA Little Helpers were children from birth to age 6 and in any given year parishes hosted parties for Mums & tots at which time the tins were emptied & funds collected went off to National to support children’s ministries in the north & overseas. Each Branch (parish ACW) also had a Little Helpers Secretary who visited families with children in the age group above, sent birthday cards & maintained baptismal rolls – often sending a card to mark the anniversary of a child’s baptism. After age 6 the hope was the girls would join JA - Jr Auxiliary and then GA – Girls Auxilary. I think some of the parishes in the Maritimes still have these groups. When the named changed from WA to ACW children’s ministries folded into Family Life and somehow this huge title seems to have ‘thrown the baby out with the bath water – so to speak.
- Help needed to identify item- We received a request from Jean regarding a tin that belonged to her mother-in-law, who grew up in Manitoba and lived on Vancouver Island from the 1940's until her death in 2003. If you have any information for Jean please use the contact form under the "other" tab above.
